Artisan metalsmith jewelry individually handcrafted by Tampa, Florida silversmith Linda P Smith from sterling silver, copper and glass enamel. Her current collections of rings, earrings and necklaces have bird, flower and organic themes.

Mookaite Jasper Bird Earrings Handcrafted in Sterling Silver

Jasper & Sterling | Earrings
The striking natural coloring on this pair of Mookaite Jasper cabochons inspired this design. I envisioned a little bird in a tree at sunset. The form the design, I first traced the stone shape on a sheet of pure silver and freehand sketched my vision. I chose pure silver so the pierced overlay will stay bright silver and will not tarnish.

Next, I carefully cut out the design using my jewelry hand saw. I refined the piercing and added texture to the tree then made a bezel cup to fit the stones. I've added an embossed botanical pattern to the reverse of the bezel cups. The bezel hanging loop is accented with tiny hand-forged leaves, as are the 20 gauge sterling silver ear wires.

Measures 1 13/16" from top of ear wire to bottom of dangles and 5/8" wide.
